At SemoWeb.com, we’re proud to offer premier virtual private server hosting – VPS for short. We have had questions, however, about why we don’t describe ourselves as a cloud hosting provider. We created this post to help clear up any confusion about the topic.
How We Set Up Our Servers
We use a process called virtualization to help segment existing machines into several virtual machines. Each virtual machine is converted to function as a separate, totally independent server. Each of these servers does draw from the resources of the machine where they are housed, which is the common trait that separates VPS from cloud hosting.
Cloud Hosting Servers
Virtual servers are also used to create a cloud computing scenario. The difference, however, is that tasks and processes are assigned to be completed via remote resources rather than by a centralized local machine. Because we do not rely on remote resources in this manner, we do not consider ourselves a cloud hosting company.
Knowing What You Pay For
It’s important for hosting customers to understand exactly what they’re paying for. The difference in cost between VPS and cloud services can be significant. At SemoWeb, we’re proud to offer reliable VPS hosting plans at affordable rates. Before choosing which type of server you need, however, you should learn more about the differences between VPS and cloud hosting. Understanding this can save you a large sum in the long run!
